Craftsman Weather Seal Replacement: The Spring Valley Owner’s Guide

Craftsman weather seal replacement in Spring Valley typically runs $150-$600 installed, depending on door width and whether the seal is a simple bottom rubber or a full perimeter kit with retainer. We stock the common Craftsman profiles on our trucks and can usually complete the job in a single visit. Most Spring Valley homeowners notice the problem first during our rare heavy rains, when water starts creeping under the door, or in summer when dust from the canyon trails blows straight into the garage.

Carl Dutton, our owner, puts it plain: “Tell me what it’s doing. I’ll tell you what it costs. Then we fix it.” That is how we have worked since 1984.

Which Craftsman Models This Applies To

Craftsman garage doors were sold through Sears for decades, and the brand covered multiple actual manufacturers. The weather seal you need depends on which generation of door you own. Pre-2010 Craftsman doors often used a T-style bottom seal with a 1/4-inch stem, while later models switched to a bulb-shaped seal with a wider 5/16-inch T-end. The retainer track itself changed too, and mixing old seal with new retainer is a common mismatch we see in Spring Valley.

To identify yours, check the label inside the door sections for the model prefix: 139-series openers are common, but the door itself may carry a WD, CL, or AMR code indicating the original builder. If the label is painted over or missing, measure the width of the seal stem and the shape of the bulb, round or flat. We carry both OEM-compatible and quality aftermarket seals that meet the same specs. Mainspring Garage Door Co. is an independent service provider, not affiliated with Craftsman, but we are factory-familiar with their hardware and stock the profiles that fit.

Signs Your Craftsman Weather Seal Replacement Is Failing

  • Water pooling after rain. The seal has compressed or cracked, breaking the contact line against the concrete. In Spring Valley, where many slabs settled slightly over the decades, a worn seal cannot bridge the gap.
  • Light visible under the door. A healthy seal blocks all daylight. If you see a line of light, the rubber has flattened or the retainer has pulled away from the bottom section.
  • Dust and leaves blowing in. The Santee winds push fine dust through any opening. When your garage floor stays dirty no matter how often you sweep, the seal is the first place to check.
  • Pest activity. Rodents and insects exploit gaps at the corners where the seal meets the jambs. A failing seal gives them a highway.
  • Rust on the bottom section. Moisture wicking up through a cracked seal corrodes the steel from the inside out. We have replaced bottom sections in Spring Valley that looked fine from the outside but were paper-thin behind the paint.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Weather seal replacement falls within our general garage door repair range of $150-$600. A standard single-car Craftsman door with a simple bottom seal runs toward the lower end. A double-wide door with a full perimeter seal kit, new retainer, and corner weatherstripping runs higher. The price covers the seal material, any needed retainer or fasteners, labor, and disposal of the old seal.

We state the flat price before we start. No surprises on the bill. Every seal replacement carries our 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If it leaks, gaps, or fails, we come back at no charge.

Service Typical Range
Bottom seal replacement, single door $150-$280
Bottom seal + retainer, double door $280-$450
Full perimeter seal kit $350-$600

DIY or Call Us?

A homeowner can safely inspect the seal. Look for cracks, flattening, or separation from the retainer. Check if the retainer screws are loose. That is where safe DIY ends.

Removing the old seal from a steel retainer without bending the track takes a specific technique. Forcing it with a screwdriver kinks the retainer, and then you are buying a new one. Worse, the bottom section of a Craftsman door is under tension from the spring system. If you unbolt the retainer without securing the door, it can drop or shift. We do not recommend working under a loaded door.

We carry the seals, retainers, and fasteners on our trucks. Most Craftsman weather seal replacements in Spring Valley are done in under an hour. Call (619) 825-2139 and we will quote it before we drive.
